different master, same sambok

Macambini residents near Mandini do have cause to be upset, even if the government does not wish to admit so.

what really makes the story interesting is that there are laws protecting people from forceful removal and more laws that allow people to claim their ancestral land back.

but in the name of progress, development, Dubai billions and 'the best interests of the people', the residents may lose their land.

i fail to understand how a government that is outspoken about taking farms away for restitution is also planning to remove people to make way for another rich playground? is this because the deadline for applications has lapsed, so if the planning goes ahead against the will of the community they will not be able to use the same law to protect themselves?

if the project does go ahead, how long before we find out that one of the official's wife's sister's daughter was a director of a company that supplied 'documentation/support/consultation/insert favourite euphimism for kickback here' to one of the preferred biders?

on a final note, the residents are free to burn tyres and protest but pelting innocent travellers with stones and damaging their cars is taking it a bit far, i would suggest rather to take that protest to the government buildings or they should take aim at the blue light brigade when next it passes. perhaps then the premier will stop and listen.
